Scholarships for Students of German

The German National Adviser, ILEP and the Goethe-Institut expect will award several scholarships in 2017/18 for New Zealand Year 12 students who are studying German. Applications have closed.


AFS Language Immersion Awards

The Ministry of Education, through AFS Intercultural Programmes, offer language teachers the opportunity of a fully funded Language Immersion Award for 1 month to 1 year. They give language teachers the opportunity to live in a country where there language is spoken, attend language classes, be fully immersed in a community, language, culture and school.

  • Do you want to engage your students to achieve more in learning learning?
  • Are you teaching a language at a primary, intermediate or secondary school?
  • Do you want to improve your language and cultural knowledge through immersion?
  • Do you want to create vibrant language lessons with updated resources?
  • Do you want to build capability in language learning clusters or a Community of Learning | Kāhui Ako CoL?

A Language Immersion Award will help to support your own and the schools long term goals for both language and culture learning. Be immersed in and surrounded daily by the language and culture.  Create an impact back in the classroom for your students, colleagues and wider community.

In partnership with overseas universities and donor governments, the Ministry of Education (through ILEP) offers scholarship programmes for teachers of languages to improve their skills, confidence and ideas in the country of their target language. With special guidance from the National Language Advisers who host the programme, teachers come away better equipped for delivering a fantastic Learning Languages curriculum.

Stage de Nouméa - Applications closed

This French immersion programme to Nouméa in New Caledonia is an opportunity for 10 teachers of French in New Zealand to develop their knowledge of language and culture in a native French-speaking environment. ILEP guides teachers to enhance their language teaching skills through this experience.

Korean Study Tour for Principals - Applications closed

The Korean Education Centre (KEC) is pleased to announce the NZ Principals' Korean Study Tour 2017. The tour will take 12 principals, deputy principals and senior management staff (team leader/head teacher/dean etc.) to Korea, travelling around and visiting Korean schools and educational organisations.

Programme Dates: 22-29 April 2017.
Application Deadline: 27 February 2017.

China Scholarship to Beijing - Applications closed

Up to 12 New Zealand teachers of Chinese will travel to China on a 3-week intensive language and culture programme at the Beijing Language and Culture University with extra activities arranged by NZ and Chinese governments. This programme is a fantastic opportunity to be immersed in Chinese language and culture and to improve both your Chinese language and your teaching pedagogy.

Spanish Scholarship to Salamanca - Applications closed

ILEP provides this language and culture immersion programme to Spain in partnership with the University of Salamanca. Teachers who gain a place will have the opportunity to improve their language skills by being immersed in the language and culture, through formal classes, various activities and a homestay in Salamanca. The programme will be tailored to the needs of New Zealand teachers with guidance from the ILEP National Adviser for Spanish.

Programme Dates: 10th - 21st July 2017
Application Deadline: 17th February 2017
